Turkey invented the coffeehouse — the first kahvehane opened in Istanbul in 1554. Today the city holds both traditions: thick, unfiltered Turkish coffee served in tulip glasses, and a roaring specialty scene in Karaköy and Cihangir where local roasters are producing some of the most exciting coffee in the region.
